Benefits of Evening Primrose Oil

1 primrose oil
I'm using primrose oil on and off for few years now. I started using it to relieve discomfort of PMS.
Research results have shown that by interfering with the production of inflammatory prostaglandins released during menstruation, the GLA in evening primrose oil can help to lessen menstrual cramps. It may also minimize premenstrual breast tenderness, irritable bowel flare-ups, and carbohydrate cravings, and help to control endometriosis-associated inflammation. Many PMS sufferers are found to have unusually low levels of GLA in their systems, which is why supplements might help so much. In women with fibrocystic breasts, the oil's essential fatty acids can minimize breast inflammation and promote the absorption of iodine, a mineral that can be present in abnormally low levels in women with this condition.
While using it I started to see a big difference in my skin condition not only during that time of month but also on every day basis. It definitely improved elasticity and radiance of my skin.

Evening primrose oil is also good for people who have acne. By working to dilute sebum, a thick oily substance that is oversecreted in some people with acne, the essential fatty acids in evening primrose oil may reduce the risk of pores becoming clogged and lesions developing. The oil's EFAs help treat rosacea by reducing inflammation, controlling cells' use of nutrients and by producing prostaglandins, which stimulate the contraction of blood vessels.

I'm using Natural Wealth Evening Primrose Oil Forte (2600 mg) 30 capsules. It costs 104kn (around 15$). But there are so many brands that do them. Solgar is also very good. If you decide to try it look for brands that have more mg of evening primrose oil in one softgel capsule. This way you only need 1 capsule after your meal. These softegls don't irritate my stomach. You can buy it here (iherb).

I also tried evening primrose oil as an oil consistency (because I wanted cheaper alternative - 100 ml 71 kn around 10 $) ) but I don’t like it at all. I find it hard to swallow because of the oil texture, even if the taste isn’t so bad the oily texture makes you want a vomit. Also I find it’s hard to digest, it does irritate your stomach.  So insted taking it orally I’m using it on my skin. It has anti-aggregatory, anti-atherogenic, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant benefits. It doesn’t clog your pores, I use it mainly on dry areas or on area that needs fast healing (dark spots after blemishes and dry patches). There are so many benefits, you can check here for other skin and hair benefits of evening primrose oil.

Be careful if you are pregnant or breastfeeding you need to consult with your doctor.

Are you taking any supplements or using any oil?

xoxo Ana
